Exercise Science

Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology

About

The undergraduate Exercise Science program has a science-based curriculum that provides a broad background for students planning to further their education at the graduate level. The program emphasizes these primary disciplines: anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, sport psychology, and motor leaning/control. Students complete specified course work within as well as a rigorous curriculum in areas such as anatomy, chemistry, mathematics, physics, physiology, and psychology.

The Exercise Science program offers excellent preparation for graduate work in adapted physical education, adult or corporate fitness, biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control, ergonomics, sport psychology, and sports medicine. In addition, the exercise science major may prepare for graduate-level education in physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, dentistry, podiatry, optometry, chiropractic, osteopathy, and other allied health fields.
Students planning to enter the job market with an undergraduate major in exercise science prepare for entry-level employment with corporate and community fitness programs, health clubs, and similar fitness-related industries. The strong emphasis on applied science in the program makes it suitable for students who are interested in coaching but do not wish to teach in public elementary or secondary schools. Positions in sales or marketing of medical, fitness, and sports-related equipment may be appropriate for students with this degree.
