Eighth and Ninth Grade

Dream about what you want to be

Not sure what you want to be when you grow up? It’s no big deal—college can help you make that decision when the time comes. For now, think about what you like to do, what you like to study, and things you’re good at.

Think about where you want to go

Maybe your family has gone to the same school for generations, or maybe you’re the first to go to college. Either way, think about what you’re looking for. Large or small, in your state or in another country—what’s your dream school?

Build good habits

Talk to your guidance counselor about your classes. Pay attention to your teachers, develop good study habits, and spend time reading (for school or just for run). You’ll build skills that will help you succeed in college—and in life.

Learn about paying for college

Did you know that more than two out of every three college students get financial aid to help pay for college? If you plan to invest in your education, you’ll have more opportunities later for a better career (and a higher salary).
